OTHER NEWS FROM THE GARDENING WORLD
Field to Fork
The Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia are pleased to support the Field to Fork initiative, which is working to strengthen connections among community gardening, food preparation and nutrition. By doing so, Field to Fork VA will be able to:
- Encourage gardeners and farmers to use unoccupied green space within Virginia
- Allow residents the ability to afford and consume a wide variety of locally-grown produce
- Increase health and educational benefits by granting more access to fresh food, and
- Create volunteer opportunities which will continue year-round, thus broadening the influence of and membership within the network.

Where the Wild Things Are
As part of the launch of the movie "Where the Wild Things Are" the National Wildlife Federation launches its "Be Out There" program which encourages children to play outdoors and interact with nature. See www.beoutthere.org.
MGNV also encourages outdoor learning through its involvement with school gardening in Arlington and Alexandria (http://mgnv.org/programs.html#school). To learn more about some of the school gardening projects in our area, visit Tuckahoe Discovery Garden and Alexandria City School Gardening News. You need not be a Master Gardener to be involved; all volunteers welcome!
