MGNV Speakers Bureau – Getting The Word Out!

Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia are happy to share their knowledge of many basic gardening topics with local community organizations in Arlington and Alexandria. Through our Speakers Bureau, we offer programs for civic associations, condominium organizations, neighborhood groups, garden clubs, church groups, schools, children’s centers, scout troops, and other local groups.

In 2011, the Speakers Bureau’s first full year of operation, we received 40 requests for speakers. Two-thirds came from local organizations and agencies: 7 from garden clubs, 5 from civic associations, 8 from local government offices (notably the Arlington Office of Senior Programs), and 6 from other groups (a Girl Scout troop, a PTA, and the Arlington Learning in Retirement Institute, for example). These requests led to 38 public education events.

We offer programs in five basic topics year-round. Each is in demand, with most requests for composting and container gardening. In our next blog, we’ll go through the basic topics in a little more detail.
