Master Gardeners Will Again Offer Award-Winning Classes on Sustainable Gardening

Sustainability flyer 2014This program is full. Please check back with us for other upcoming programs on sustainable gardening.  Those on the waitlist will be notified by January 19 of their status.  Thank you.  Registration is now closed for the next presentation of MGNV’s six-part series, Making Your Yard Sustainable. Classes will be held on consecutive Saturdays, January 25 to March 1, 2014, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Fairlington Community Center, 3308 S. Stafford Street, in Arlington.

Our Master Gardeners have adapted a national curriculum on sustainable landscaping principles to highlight local conditions, workable solutions, and accessible resources for Northern Virginia homeowners. Participants will get practical advice on how to improve their soil, conserve water and energy, and select the right plants and materials to create a beautiful garden at home that also protects our environment at large. During the course, participants will get coaching from local experts to develop a sustainability plan for their own yards.

The inaugural course in 2013 was named best community service project of the year by Virginia Master Gardeners Association. Graduates of that course raved:

“Regardless of the size of your garden, this course provides useful and cost effective ideas that will not only enhance your existing garden, but also help the community further its efforts in sustaining a clean environment.”

“This course is invaluable to any homeowner. It gives you the knowledge you need to maintain a yard that is consistent with your desires and environmental best practices. Plus you’ll learn a lot of new things that will surprise you.”

Just $75 per household for all six workshops. Class size is limited to 20 households.
