Cicadas Stop to Smell the Roses

These Brood X cicadas took a chance warming their wings so conspicuously on some rose bushes with birds flying overhead. The cicadas are equally adept at hiding as a neighbor discovered when she came eye to eye with two red eyes as she tried to ascertain the fragrance of a particular rose. So if you stop to smell the roses, look carefully before you take a whiff. Click on the images above for larger views and to read the captions.
