One morning
I was walking to the station
On my way to work.
It was hot
Not yet unbearably so
But hot nonetheless.
There was a worm on the sidewalk
Wriggling its way
East to west
Across a frying pan expanse
Pursuing a strategy
Only the blind could see.
Good luck with that
I thought
And stepped over him.
I only made it a couple of blocks
Before I stopped
And turned back.
I bent down
And moved him
To safety.
I missed my train.
