Behind the walled bed of the Scented Garden, spikes of lemon grass accent highly fragrant Viburnum carlesii along with various agastaches as well as assorted thymes, rosemary, basil, parsley, curry, savory, salvia, and chamomile. The perennials come back year after year, but others, like Mexican and pineapple sages and basil have to be treated like annuals in our climate in September 2018. Photo © Mary Free
