The peeling, cinnamon-copper bark of Lagerstroemia subcostata var. fauriei (Japanese crape myrtle) is striking in the Princess Diana Bed in December 2021. This species is one of the parents of the popular 'Natchez' hybrid introduced by the U.S. National Arboretum. The Winter Color Bed is in the background. Photo © Mary Free
