One of the best ways to learn about vegetable gardening is to see long established gardens in action. Make time this year to visit the Organic Vegetable Garden in north Arlington at Potomac Overlook Regional Park, one of the eight demonstration gardens operated by MGNV.

2024 Great Bean Glean – September 3

It’s that time again! The Plot Against Hunger Glean Team will harvest whole string bean plants and return to Arlington to pick them clean. Last year we harvested and donated almost 1400 pounds of snappy green string beans. This is a great team activity that we are excited to offer again this year. We’ll need lots of volunteers, and two shifts are available. Stay as long as you’d like! If you haven’t already, be sure to create a volunteer profile on the FOUA site to easily sign up for this year’s Bean Glean.
WHEN: Tuesday, September 3, 11 am – 4 pm (two shifts available)
WHERE: Rock Spring Church, 5010 Little Falls Road, Arlington 22207 (outside on the lawn; or inside Carpenter Hall in case of rain).
BRING: We ask that you bring your own chair, if possible, water, a snack.
Listen to a recent piece about gleaning on WAMU, with a shout out to FOUA and Plot Against Hunger at the end.
Does your employer offer community service hours? Looking for a great activity for your office partners, college sports team, or community group? If you’re interested in getting your team out to glean, email volunteer@arlingtonurbanag.org.
