What are the dense tufts or rows of hairs found on some species of irises, spiderworts, and turtleheads?
Instead of signals or crests, rows of hairs appear on the falls of these irises. In turtleheads, these tufts occur on the lower lip of the corolla. In spiderworts, segmented hairs cover the stamen filaments. You’ll find this word in the common name of one of these species.
