Factsheets. Blue Ridge PRISM, Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management. Includes excellent illustrated fact sheets for 18 targeted species with a separate detailed fact sheet on control methods. The information on the proper application of herbicides is especially important in ensuring their safe and effective use. The organization is also creating a series of short videos on ID and control.
James H. Miller, Erwin B. Chambliss, and Nancy J. Loewenstein, Field Guide for the Identification of Invasive Plants in Southern Forests. United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. Descriptions of 56 selected plants found in 13 southern states, including Virginia, provide management strategies and recommend control procedures.
Global Invasive Species Database. Searchable database with control data compiled from multiple scholarly articles and publications.
Invasive Plant Species of Virginia. Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation. Includes a printable invasive plants list and a spreadsheet version of the list, which includes light and soil moisture requirements. Individual fact sheets are available for the most troublesome species.
Invasives in Your Woodland. University of Maryland Extension. Short articles profiling invasive species threatening the ecosystems of natural areas.
Least Wanted: Alien Plant Invaders of Natural Areas. Plant Conservation Alliance, U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management. Illustrated fact sheets edited by the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy include control data compiled from multiple scholarly sources.
Non-Native Invasive ID and Control. Fairfax County Park Authority. Citizen’s guide to recognizing and controlling plants commonly found in backyards.
Non-Native Invasive Plants Species Control Treatments. Virginia Department of Forestry. Management tactics for controlling major invasive species, including timing, methods, and herbicide rates.
Jill M. Swearingen and Judith P. Fulton, Plant Invaders of Mid-Atlantic Natural Areas, Field Guide. Passiflora Press, 2022. Features detailed description and biology for 92 invasive species and provides guidance on control methods for aquatic, herbaceous, and woody plants.
