Quercus_phellos_acorns_detail-2_Oct_MMF
Quercus phellos (willow oak) acorns occur singly or in pairs. The nearly
stalkless acorn is ¼-½” inch long as wide with a shallow, scaly cupule
enclosing up to ⅓ of the nut, which turns brown with faint stripes when ripe.
