What Makes Soil Different From Dirt?

Kids are invited to explore dirt and all its secrets this Sunday, June 9, in the Small Space Garden, during the Fairlington Farmers Market.

We walk on it, we run on it, we dig it up, we plant in it. But what is the magic that makes dirt different from soil? Is sand dirt? Is clay dirt? Kids will experiment with types of soil. They will watch the results of an activity called “Soil Pour Through” and then conduct their own experiments. If their soil mixture is healthy, they will have the opportunity to plant in it.

Join Master Gardeners in the garden either at 9:30 or 10:30. Limited capacity of 10 children per session, first come, first served. Adults must accompany children.

Choose one of two sessions:  

• 9:30-10:00 or
• 10:30-11:00.
