Jewell’s goal was to highlight the diversity of women working with plants, and the many ways they do so, and she succeeds admirably.

The United States Botanic Garden (USBG) in Washington, DC marked its 200th anniversary in 2020. Then, in February of this year, the USBG opened a two-part major exhibition, “Deeply Rooted, Branching Outward,” giving visitors an opportunity to examine historic images of the garden and learn about plant exploration through the years, as well as to discover how the garden works today. The bounty produced by the Library Garden this fall captivated many visitors. Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia love sharing the beauty and abundance of Nature's gifts, while also having the opportunity to answer lots of questions elicited by the great variety of seeds, berries, fruits and the one “faux-nut” displayed in our Glencarlyn Library Teaching/Demonstration garden.
