Succulents come in all shapes and sizes with many suited to a small space. However, the defining characteristics of succulents is their ability to store water in their fleshy leaves, thick stems, or swollen roots. The variety of small succulents and their ability to survive in semi-arid environments with infrequent watering is what makes them a perfect choice for your small space.

Extension Master Gardener Nancy Davis leads the restoration of the ravines where the Beth El "Chapel in the Woods" is located. The Chapel in the Woods project is an ongoing example of how cooperation among groups and individuals can make change in a community.

Master Gardeners at the Glencarlyn Library have been renovating the garden beds along the parking lot. As the growing season progresses, local residents will see dozens of new plantings and a more intentional, holistic design that highlights native plants.

At the time Vegetables Love Flowers: Companion Planting for Beauty and Bounty was published in 2018, author Lisa Mason Zeigler had been operating a commercial cut -flower farm in Newport News, Virginia, for 19 years. Her cut flower beds are interspersed among her vegetable beds. She does not use pesticides. Instead, she has worked over time to build a garden eco-system which relies on natural processes to grow strong, healthy vegetable plants and gorgeous flowers for cutting.
