The new trend toward hotter summers and warmer winters is necessarily changing the way we garden. Our current lowest average temperature of 14 degrees now would place our region in Zone 8, which is presently located around Virginia Beach, a little over 200 miles further south. Should we be planting southern species?

Mycorrhizal fungi partner with roots, stabilizing plants and enhancing their absorption of nutrients and water. To encourage mycorrhizal growth, #leave-the-leaves in fall.

Sometimes referred to as Wild Raisin because of its dark ripe fruit, this species is the most showy of the native #Viburnums with lustrous leaves, multi-colored drupes, and stunning fall foliage. The shrub is indigenous to low woods and swamps in the Mid-Atlantic.
