In botany, the word dehisce is used mainly when discussing plant parts such as anthers, sporangia, and fruit.
Please remember that just because it’s pretty doesn’t mean it’s nice. Unfortunately, Star-of-Bethlehem plants naturalize easily and are becoming a real NUISANCE. Beyond its nuisance appearance in your lawn or garden, agriculturally, it is a significant emerging weed problem.

Despite being one of the hardest of native* woods, Hop-hornbeam is undesirable in commercial forests. It provides interest as an ornamental though, with fluted trunk, exfoliating bark, and drooping clusters of sac- like pods that resemble the fruit of hops, hence its common name.
