Tried and True Native Plant Selections for the Mid-Atlantic: Where to see these shrubs in our demonstration gardens

Many of the shrubs recommended in this section can easily be seen in person at local public gardens. Four of these gardens that feature native plants are designed and maintained by Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia, serving Arlington and Alexandria.

The Potomac Overlook Native Plant Garden, 2845 N. Marcey Road, Arlington, VA 22207, next to the demonstration Organic Vegetable Garden maintained by Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia, has a variety of shrubs, including Witch Hazel in section 20; Spicebush in section 7; Ninebark in section 8; and a relative of Black Haw (Viburnum acerfolium) in section 9. The garden is maintained by Audubon at Home, the Virginia Native Plant Society, and Arlington Regional Master Naturalists is collaboration with the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
