Tried and True Native Plant Selections for the Mid-Atlantic

Showy flower clusters and airy foliage make Thread-leaf Coreopsis as popular in Mid-Atlantic* gardens today as it was in the 19th century. Seventeen specialist bee species feed only on its genus. If you are fond of its appearance but wary of self-seeding plants, then try the sterile, compact cultivar ‘Moonbeam’ that spreads by rhizomes.
*It is native to DC and some areas in MD, but unreported in DE and PA. In Virginia, it is frequent to locally common in the west central and northwest mountains, Piedmont, and inner Coastal Plain and rare in the southwest mountains and outer Coastal Plain.
