Class Description

Landscape plants already overgrown? Need to remove old flower heads? Summer provides a second and sometimes much-needed time to prune a variety of spring flowering trees and shrubs and to help perennial flowering plants look their best. Thoughtful and careful pruning can improve overall structure, manage the size of your woody plants, and boost fruit and flower production in fruit trees and shrubs. Kirsten Conrad, Extension Agent for Arlington and the City of Alexandria, will walk you through the how, when, and why to do summer pruning on hedges, multi-stem shrubs, small trees, and perennial ornamentals. With these best practices, your pruning will result in healthier and fuller growth, better flowers and fruit, and more attractive landscaping.

Suckers should be removed as needed to preserve the look and form of the tree and to prevent crowding.

We know there is an ongoing problem with the registration process via Zoom that requires folks to double register. We create the original registration form about a month before the class is scheduled. Unfortunately, the presenters aren’t usually ready to share the class resources until the week of the class.  When we edit the registration email to add the resources, it results in forcing folks who registered before the revised mailing to re-register. Our apologies!

After you register,

  • You will receive an immediate email Zoom confirmation with the link to the class and some registration questions.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION
make sure to check your SPAM folder.
  • You will receive a reminder confirmation with resource materials the day before the class. This may cause you to have to re-register when you sign into the class.
  • Please add events@mgnv.org and webmaster@mgnv.org to your address book, so that emails from MGNV do not go into your spam or junk folder.

Registration now stays open until the end of the meeting.
