The Plant Clinic at Arlington Central Library is staffed by VCE Master Gardeners, who answer general gardening questions as well as questions about pests and diseases and plant identification. They also provide free soil test kits on request. The clinic is located in the East Lobby of the Library.
Summer pruning helps you to improve overall structure and size of your woody plants or boost fruit and flower production in fruit trees and shrubs. Extension Agent Kirsten Conrad will walk you through the how, when, and why to do summer pruning on hedges, multi-stem shrubs, small trees and perennial ornamentals. With these best practices, your pruning will result in healthier and fuller growth, better flowers and fruit, and more attractive landscaping.

They also provide free soil test kits on request. The Plant Clinic coincides with the Fairlington Farmers Market and is located at the back of the Fairlington Community Center.
This event has two components: 1) a self-guided tour of homes, gardens, and community spaces ($5 per person), and 2) a free community celebration at Shirlington Library with exhibits focused on sustainability and family-friendly fun. The self-guided Green Community Tour features various homes and community spaces with energy-efficient technologies, watershed-friendly gardens, food and flower gardens, wildlife habitats, native plants, natural play features, and more.

Celebrate National Gardening Week by taking a virtual tour of eight gardens maintained by Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia and six public gardens in the Washington metropolitan area to see examples of good gardening techniques and gain inspiration for your own home landscape. Extension Master Gardener Elaine Mills, a coordinator at the Glencarlyn Library Community Garden in Arlington, Virginia, showcases best management practices and design concepts employed by her fellow demonstration garden leaders in a wide variety of settings
Come to an outdoor, hands-on class to learn how to prune your plants to make them look their best now and look even more spectacular next spring. Extension Master Gardeners Bob Besse, Angela McNamara, Molly Newling and Claire Wade will lead you through the principles and practices of good pruning.
Please join Extension Master Gardeners for a joint open house: in the Sunny Garden at the Rose Garden parking lot, and at the Quarry Shade Garden a short walk up the trail in Bon Air Park. There will be garden tours, children’s activities, seed giveaways, a plant raffle, and a special guest sharing information on the park during the Civil War.

Join Extension Master Gardener Elaine Mills to learn about the characteristics of pollinators and the plants native to the Mid-Atlantic region that will attract them and fill their needs, whether your garden space is large or limited to a patio or balcony. Best gardening practices for pollinators and special considerations for designing containers of native plants are also explained.
